There is a line in Yukar (an epic saga or poem) that says Tomikanuye Shirikanuye Nepkeniaki. There are also documents that say that a very small group of Ainu people in Hokkaido used to hold them in their hands (maybe for ritual) before the Meiji period(1868-1912). However, few people have ever seen them in person. Therefore, this item was reproduced based on the literature.
